Here’s a small history lesson and a look into what danish breaking was like in the mid-eighties. The first breakdance-wave that had hit Europe in the beginning of the eighties had died out, and only a few dedicated hip hop headz kept the dance alive. Nevertheless, the level in 1985 showed a considerable improvement compared to 1-2 years earlier, and it’s very much due to this small group of people, who not only kept the dance alive, but also developed it, that breakdance still exists today.
Juste Debout means “only standing”, and is a battle for the Funk Styles, e.g. popping / electric boogie and locking. Breakdance is not a part of it, but the event is relevant for anyone interested in urban dance in general. This is the nordic qualification, and the winners will represent at the finals in France. It’s taking place on January 31 in Vega, Copenhagen. For more info, check the Facebook event page by clicking here
People often ask us about where they can find the music for breakdancing. We made the Facebook group “B-boy Mixtapes”, which is open for everyone, and where DJs share their mixes. Go to the group by clicking here.
